how to apply for cpje

Over the past decade, our courses have been used by over 1,000 pharmacists who have successfully passed the CPJE on their first attempt. From our experience, we highly recommend that you follow the following points when applying for the CPJE:

  1. Use your full legal name - This may sound obvious but it is of the utmost importance, lots of people apply for the exam and use a hyphenated or different version of their name. The names in your transcripts, driving license as well as the names that the Pharmacy board has in your records should be identical.
  2. Application fee - When submitting your application, you will need a money order, cheque or cashier's check of $200 payable to the pharmacy board. Under no circumstance will this fee be refunded.
  3. Ensure accuracy in filling out the Application for Pharmacist Examination and Licensure - Correct filling in of the Pharmacist Examination and Licensure form the first time will spare you the hassle of having it rejected. The most common error in the applications is the submission of old photos. Make sure it is a recent photo (within 60 days of sending the passport photo) of a 2”x 2” size and it should be attached to the front of the application. Scanned and Polaroid images are not allowed as they decay with time.
  4. Expedited review - This is a provision for those candidates whose spouses are in active membership of the US Armed Forces or who meet the criteria of the Business and Professions Code. Where this is applicable candidates should submit a copy of their marriage certificate or proof of legal union. Secondly, individuals who hold current licenses in other states of the US, would only need to attach copies of their licenses in the respective states.
  5. Copies of official transcripts - The official degree transcripts should show the graduation dates as well as the pharmacy degree earned. The transcripts should be sent to the board directly from your college. Candidates who are foreigners should meet the FPGEC requirements. The FPGEC certification will act in place of their transcripts.
  6. Intern hours - Proof of 1500 hours of internship undertaken within the US should be provided or documentation for one year of licensed practice in another state should be provided. Be sure to verify your certification. In addition to this, the candidate should submit a signed document attesting to the fact that they obtained experience as a pharmacist working in community and institutional (secondary care) settings. A self-query from NPDB-HIPDB that is original and sealed should be presented to the board. It should be done within 60 days of application.
  7. Fingerprints - Residents of California can have a live scan of their fingerprints while those unable to use the live scan can use the Board of Pharmacy's fingerprint cards. It is important that they are verified by the Department of Justice and that they are recent enough.
  8. Scheduling and arranging for the test - A candidate is expected to wait for at least 14 days after receiving the acceptance notification before mailing their candidature bulletin. They will need to pay $33 to make an appointment.
